Area Information for New Albany, Ohio
New Albany is a family-oriented community located in Franklin and Licking counties.
As of the 2010 Census, New Albany had a population of just 7,724 residents.
This Columbus suburb was incorporated in 1856. Many believe that the community was named after Albany, New York.
For the first few years of its history, the Wilkins Lumber Mill attracted residents to the area.
But the rapid growth in New Albany didn’t take place until the 1990s, when Les Wexner’s clothing line expanded.
Expansion of several major thoroughfares, including State Route 161 as well as I-270 also facilitated growth in the community.
In addition, a number of major corporations are headquartered in New Albany, including Abercrombie & Fitch and Commercial Vehicle Group.
Earlier in 2011, Bob Evans Restaurant announced plans to relocate its headquarters to New Albany as well.
Today, New Albany is considered one of the wealthiest communities in the state. According to recent data, it ranks 11th in the state for per capita income.
Education in New Albany
New Albany, Ohio is home to a number of nationally ranked public schools within the New Albany Plain Local School district.
The district boasts that it is the only district in Ohio in which every school has been designated a “National Blue Ribbon School of Excellence” by the U.S. Department of Education.
Things to do in New Albany
As with other communities in the greater Columbus area, New Albany is home to a number of pristine golf courses, including the Nicklaus-designed course at the New Albany Country Club.
The New Albany Links golf course, designed by Barry Serafin, is also quite renowned in the area.
At the New Albany Market Square, residents can enjoy a day downtown exploring a variety of shopping and dining venues.
And the Plain Township Aquatic Center offers residents a fun way to work out or just relax.
